Training and Support

The welfare of our children is paramount, and in order to meet their needs, everyone involved in the caring process must maintain a high level of professionalism and commitment to quality. As a foster carer you will be recognised as an integral member of our care team and offered our full support and thorough training.

Both before and after your approval you'll receive training and we'll encourage you to attend additional training to further develop your fostering skills.  You can choose to undertake an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) and/or pursue personal interests related to fostering.

We have a training co-ordinator whose job it is to ensure our foster carers and other people working within the service are equipped with the necessary skills to do the job. We also have a Nurse Specialist for looked after children, offering all foster carers support and advice on a wide range of health issues.

To help with the cost of keeping each child, you will be given a weekly allowance which is dependant on the age of the child. You will also receive a weekly reward payment when you have a child in placement. In addition, there are other grants and allowances available, including help with the furniture, bedding, and meeting other basic requirements. These payments do not affect state benefits or personal tax allowances in any way.
